New Vintage Tent Blog

Vintage seems to be a buzz word for a buzzing scene at the moment in the UK. It may just be sexing up charity shops, jumble sales and generally using old stuff as long as you can, but hey, so what. Recycling and repairing stuff to keep it in good order is good house keeping. Something the generations that went through both world wars knew something about.

Over The Moon is proud to be preserving these traditions with our store full of wooden ladders, imperial gauge tools, grandad’s chisels, plains, drills et al. Pride of place of course is our 20 sections of military marquee, all packed away and stored lovingly to appear at weddings and festivals up and down the land.

We’ve launched a new blog, Vintage Tents, to cover more vintage related articles as well as stuff on the tents. And if you’d like to hire our Vintage Tents read more here

Yurts, a step on from Tipis.

The Welsh Tourist board has been using an idyllic image of a yurt on a welsh beach.

Yurts, like tipis, are tents from an earlier time in man’s evolution of shelter. Yurts though have an advantage over the tipi for the modern family holiday. They are more spacious with better standing room across the tents whole floorspace. And the tipis best feature, it’s spiral spread of poles are best viewed and not covered with a rain catcher, which can work against people wanting dry tents. Yurts features are always viewed with no draughts and a curvasceous wood beamed roof.

Over The Moon will be offering a larger range of hard wood hand crafted yurts for hire & sale in 2011. We will be updating the yurt pages soon with the product specs.

Seasons Greetings

I have been rambling amongst the grunge, retro and vintage world’s of web design ( a favourite of mine) whilst laying the foundations for a new tent’s website we are launching  in 2011.  Its been inspiring seeing some of the many sites out there , the design inspiration behind them and the current vogue for an authenticity this kind of design suggests.

New York’s Moon Radio site is not only of a retro style but also has a name that suggests its worthy of a mention on here.  Particularly as its very quiet out there in tent world.  We have some midwinter work coming up over the festive season but otherwise Jack Frost and his siberian ice hounds have put the skids under much tent activity.

Anyway where was i, rambling again, perhaps its the drifting interference on the signal on Moon Radio’s music , that has set the tone.  I like this drift, listening to Long and Medium wave radio of yesteryear, stations like Luxumburg and Atlantic 252 that used to be broadcast far from the UK, was like playing an instrument, constantly moving the dial to keep with the drifting signal.  The site looks like its no longer up to date but its got some interesting stuff on there.

This one , http://radio.nymoon.com/lawlesshearts/, reminds me of Scanner’s hacks of phone line conversation, a slighyly voyeuristic journey.
