Vintage Tent on Edinburgh manoeuvres

We took our best crew to Edinburgh to meet Edinburgh University’s challenge of erecting the vintage tent on a hard standing square. We were there for the first Vintage Village event put on to raise money for local charities.

Laying out the walls anchor rail

After taking advice from a specialist tent ballast supplier for the Fringe festival, Infinite Event Solutions , who were superb support, we accepted the challenge. The weights we used were based on guidelines from MUTA and the Institute of Structural Engineers.

Hooray up she rises, early in the evening

We used 20tonne of weights to anchor the 6x20m vintage tent. Weather has been kind infact it’s been spring like.

We had a few 20mph gusts which the tent coped with fine.

Thanks to Emily & Ellie, the fete organisers, who pushed us to take on this challenge and who we were hellbent on getting this tent.

The tent goes up on Friday morning in time for the school on Sunday.  Both the tent and the Walled Garden venue are available for hire for events and you could get a feel for both if you head over and have a look.  There may even be spaces still at the Cheese School, contact Trethowans to find out.

Speeding into September

Phewee, time is flying. August went by in a blur of picnic themed weddings, vintage weddings, festivals large (Shambala) & small(Fieldview). We provided military tents for the beer tent at a living history show at Cleethorpes light railway, and a stretch tent for the Festival Tails tail swinging dance venue at Shambala.

It’s been a month working up in the north of Lincolnshire and out west in Wiltshire & Somerset. We’ve been as busy as bees and met some nice folks. The trucks, tents & crews are all performing well.

Now the seasons are changing and our events side of the business is focusing it’s energies on making Trystonbury 2011 a success. It’s a sell out this year and we have some great bands and DJ’s on. Www.Trystonbury.com

Hendrick’s Vintage Curiosity Tent

Over The Moon achieved the erecting of a vintage military marquee on paved ground at Jubilee Square, Brighton.  The job was a challenging one for Hendrick’s Gin. It was the first time we had done this aluminium frame type of set up.   Hendrick’s remarkable promotional vehicle the hendrickshorselesscarriage.com had two vintage army marquee’s erected as awnings to the carriage.

We constructed an aluminium frame of scaffold tube and cut tube to fit exactly along the railway carriage and to contour to the slope of the paved square.  It was a long day and 12 hours after we started the tents were complete.  Normally these tents would have taken 4 hours to erect on grass.

Twitter pics of the carriage are on here.  http://yfrog.com/h4uy2boj

Bunker Bash – Military Theme 16th Birthday Party

Over The Moon journeyed north to Glasgow for the 1st of April to produce a military theme party.  The client’s brief was a military themed event and to cover a large 7mx4m pond right in the middle of the lawn.  The pond span was too large for the vintage military tents to go over so we offered to camouflage a 19x15m Intent.  We also used sides from our military tents to edge the Intent to add more olive green and the lived-in look of a military base.

We also added props like ammo crates, jerry cans, parachutes and lots more camo nets around the garden.  The client had a large stage built over the pond that was suitably camouflaged and the look was completed with 180 combat ready 16-18 year olds.  The night went off with a bang.
