UK Festival Conference & awards

20111116-103641.jpg

Went along for the first time to this event. Held at the HMV Forum for the daytime discussion based event and later at The Roundhouse.

There were various topics discussed by a variety of industry figures. There was a wealth of experience and knowledge to listen too. Subjects debated included the social media, weather impact, the Olympic’s versus festivals, safety and the state of the industry. Some of the speakers, like Serge Grimeaux, used the event to beat the drum for their services , in his case RFID technology.

Budding festival promoters were encouraged but told to have a ‘great idea’ and to pay their suppliers( otherwise the industry is harmed).

It was useful event and the opportunity to meet familiar faces from the summer.

Particularly enjoyed hearing Melvyn Benns career in festivals at the end of the conference. His humour and passionate love for Festivals was a good listen. He also had some sage advice for promoters.

Festival Eye Magazine spotted!!

I was very pleased to see the stall for Festival Eye magazine at last week’s Sunrise Festival.  It was a reminder of a pre-Internet time when getting hold of information on many festivals was only possible through this or the Guilfin publication.  Throughout the ’90′s i’d always buy a copy to keep informed with what was happening.
I’m glad to see that Festival Eye is still going and enjoyed reading the editorial in the latest edition.  The magazine has always catered for the underground events and i’ve discovered lots of people and events through its good work.
They do have a website up and running but it is lacking content at the mo. There is a weekly festival ticket competition.  Starting on the 1st June we will be making weekly draws for festival tickets and other, festival related, prizes.A draw will be made each Wednesday, from the winning entries to the competition submitted that week. To participate, first create a user profile. Then login and answer the questions.

Entries must be in by 7pm every Wednesday until further notice.

Winners will be notified by email, text or phone by the following day (Thursday), and offered a pair of tickets to the Willowman Festival.

Welcome to the Festival Eye

Hendrick’s Vintage Curiosity Tent

Over The Moon achieved the erecting of a vintage military marquee on paved ground at Jubilee Square, Brighton.  The job was a challenging one for Hendrick’s Gin. It was the first time we had done this aluminium frame type of set up.   Hendrick’s remarkable promotional vehicle the hendrickshorselesscarriage.com had two vintage army marquee’s erected as awnings to the carriage.

We constructed an aluminium frame of scaffold tube and cut tube to fit exactly along the railway carriage and to contour to the slope of the paved square.  It was a long day and 12 hours after we started the tents were complete.  Normally these tents would have taken 4 hours to erect on grass.

Twitter pics of the carriage are on here.  http://yfrog.com/h4uy2boj

HENDRICK’S Gin are offering two lucky winners a seat at their VIP dinner on board the HENDRICK’S HORSELESS CARRIAGE OF CURIOSITIES when it rolls into Brighton this May. At night the carriage will turn into a marvellously quaint dining car where renowned gastronomic architects Bompas & Parr will host a delightfully peculiar dining extravaganza. Four literary-themed courses will be served with matching HENDRICK’S cocktails.

To be part of this unique culinary adventure, simply contribute your libation-inspired literary tale. The best entries posted here will receive an invitation to a VIP dinner on board HENDRICK’S HORSELESS CARRIAGE OF CURIOSITIESwhen it rolls into Brighton this May and turns into a marvellously quaint dining car (24th – 26th May).

Your fine and decidedly different literary construction will become part ofHENDRICK’S Library of Delightfully Peculiar Writings. Present to the world your story telling prowess. Unleash haphazard creativity and channel brave thinking.
